Uniform Fittings

Seniors and Juniors will be July 10, 2012 from 6:00-8:00pm

Sophomores and Freshmen will be July 11, 2012 from 6:00-8:00pm

Optional night – July 25, 2012 from 7:00-8:00pm (last chance!)

Section Leaders:  You need to call each member of your section to remind them of this info!

There will be a $40.00 uniform fee for students receiving a marching and concert uniform.

There will be a $15.00 uniform fee for students receiving only the concert band uniform.

Black Gloves will also be available for $3.00 a pair.

Please make checks payable to Perry Band Boosters.

If paying cash please have the correct change.

Please wear shorts and band shoes to try on uniforms.

Freshmen: You should order your Band shoes before July 1st in order to have then by the HOF parade. To order your shoes go to the Perry band web page at www.perryband.com scroll down to Supplies and click on The Band Shoppe then click on Marching Band Shoes then click on Drillmasters Band shoes. You will need to order black shoes.

Are you ready for Marching Band????

With the start of Marching Band just around the corner, please read the following to make sure you are prepared!  Our first rehearsal is July 16th at 8AM!

1.  Get outside!  It’s never too early to start getting acclimated to the weather/sun.  The more outdoor activity you do now, the easier those first summer rehearsals will be.

2.  Bring water and stay hydrated!  You are permitted to bring water jugs, bottles, Camel-Baks, etc to all rehearsals.  Make sure these are filled with plenty of WATER to stay hydrated during rehearsals.  Do not bring pop, energy drinks, etc.  Water only.  You will thank us for this later.

3.  Block the sun!  Bring sun glasses, hats, and plenty of sun screen.  We will be spending hours in the sun…the more comfortable you make yourself, the better off you will be.

4.  Tennis shoes!  No flip flops or sandals at rehearsals.  Your directors (and feet) will thank you.

5.  Make sure you have all music in a flip folder with lyre.  If you show up without a flip folder, you will not be marching.  No exceptions.

6.  Play your instrument!  The more time you put in NOW, the more we will accomplish once rehearsal begins.  Lost your music?  Contact your section leader.

7.  Get your band shoes ordered early so they will be here for pictures/HOF parade.  We march in BLACK DRILLMASTER shoes for performances.  These can be ordered at The Band Shoppe, or any other retailer you choose.  Visit our “Supplies” link to shop for shoes!

8.  Uniform fittings on July 10 and 11!  Be there or be…..without a uniform.  Concert and Marching Uniforms will be handed out on these dates.

9.  Now is a great time to sign up for private lessons with one of our local pros!  Visit the Lessons link to contact an instructor.

Leadership Retreat Update

The 2012 Leadership Retreat is 1 week away.  Meet at the Bolivar Canoe Livery at 11:00 AM for orientation.  Each student should bring $17 in cash or check (made to the Perry Band Boosters) to cover the cost of the trip.

We are told that despite the lack of rain, the river is high enough to canoe.  See you Thursday the 12th at 11:00 AM!

Leadership Team Help Needed This Friday!

Perry is hiring a new band director who will be working with our Pfeiffer students, assisting with the Marching Band, and assisting with Winds/Concert Band.  We will be interviewing our final 2 candidates this Friday, from 9:30AM until 11:00AM.  We would like any available leadership team members to be in the band room by 9:30.  Bring your marching instrument and marching music.  Each candidate will work with you as a group for 30 minutes.  You will be finished by 11AM.  Unless I have talked to you on the phone, please email me to let me know if you can/can’t make it.  Perryband@gmail.com  This is not a mandatory event, but your help would be greatly appreciated.  This is a very important event for our program.

Leadership Retreat Info

The annual Leadership Retreat is scheduled for July 12th.  This event is for all leadership team members, field commanders, and directors.

We will meet at the Bolivar Canoe Livery at 11:45AM.  The day will include an 8.5 mile canoe trip on the Tuscarawas River, followed by a cookout.  Cost will be between $12/15 per student.

Items to bring:  Sunscreen, bug spray, drinks, etc.  Keep in mind this is not an expedition to Mt. Everest.  It’s just a canoe trip.  Please don’t overpack.

To reach the Bolivar Canoe Livery:  77 South to Bolivar/St Rt 212 exit.  Turn left.  The livery will be on your right just before you cross the river

Bonus prizes:  Cash prizes will be awarded to any student who dumps Mrs. Martin’s canoe.  Extra fundamental block time will be “awarded” to any student who dumps Mr. Smith’s canoe.

We are also looking for a few parent volunteers that are willing to grill food for us.  (hot dogs and hamburgers) Please contact Mr. Smith at perryband@gmail.com if you are interested.

Perry Marching Band selected for the Buckeye Invitational

It’s official!  The 2012 Perry HS Marching Band has been selected to perform at Ohio Stadium on October 13th for the Buckeye Invitational.  Exhibition bands will perform in addition to competitive marching bands, followed by a performance by The Ohio State University Marching Band.  Perry will be competing in class AA.  Performance times and schedule will be available later this summer.

Innovations in Brass at Infocision Stadium

Already missing Marching Band?  Can’t wait until we get started in July?  Check out the Drum Corps International show at Infocision Stadium at the University of Akron!  The show starts at 7:30PM.  You can purchase tickets online at DCI.ORG or at the door for as low as $19.00.  Featured at the show will be the Cadets, Phantom Regiment, Bluecoats, Cavaliers, and Carolina Crown.
