Solo and Ensemble Parent Info
Parents:
Solo and Ensemble is free and open to the public! We highly encourage you to come listen to your student perform their solo or ensemble. (We know your student may sometimes tell you not to come…come anyway if you can! They will certainly appreciate your support!)
A reminder that no photos, video, or audio recording is permitted during performances.
Solo and Ensemble Tips
1. Dress nicely! Do not show up in jeans and a Perry Band tee shirt. Dress pants and dress shirts! How you look will go a long way in helping your performance.
2. BE EARLY! Arrive in the homeroom with plenty of time to warm up. Be outside of your performance room at least 10 minutes early. If you have another event right before you perform, get there ASAP.
3. Be flexible! Rooms will most likely run a bit behind tomorrow.
4. Be courteous and polite at all times! And remember to thank your judge for listening to you after you perform. A smile and a thank you goes a long way. Remember, you represent the Perry Bands.
5. Keep it quiet in the hallways. Just because you may see someone else running up and down the hallway does not mean it’s acceptable for you to do that.
6. Relaxe and enjoy your performance. There is absolutely no reason to get stressed out. Everyone has missed school because of the weather, not just Perry. It will be ok!
7. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SCORE, WITH MEASURES NUMBERED!!!!!!!!!!
8. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SCORE, WITH MEASURES NUMBERED!!!!!!!!!!
9. Check again…….MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SCORE WITH MEASURES NUMBERED!!!!!!!!!
10. Do not wait on Mr. Smith or Mr. Sterling to get to your room. We can’t make it to hear everyone, but will do our best. If you are ready to go, and the judge is ready to go…then go.

Concert Band Rehearsals
A quick reminder to all Concert Band students, after-school extended rehearsals begin this Tuesday, February 4th. These rehearsals have been on the calendar since October. In light of the missed rehearsals due to weather, it is even more critical that all students attend these after school rehearsals. They will extend our regular Tuesday rehearsals until 3:00 PM.
Here is the full rehearsal schedule…
Tuesday, February 4th: 1:30-3:00 PM
Tuesday, February 11th: 1:30-3:00 PM
Tuesday, February 18th: 1:30-3:00 PM
Tuesday, February 25th: 1:30-3:00 PM
Tuesday, March 4th: 1:30-3:00 PM
With your hard work, I have no doubt we will have a successful performance at our concert on March 3rd and Large Group.
Welcome Back!
We hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break part 2!
1. Solo and Ensemble schedules are available online or in the main band room. Look on the carpeted stand under the TV.
2. Audition music for the 2014 bands has been placed on the rack outside of Mr. Smith’s office.
Extra Winds Rehearsals
In light of the fact that we have had just 8 full rehearsals since Christmas Break, and we have a performance in less than 2 weeks, we are scheduling 2 additional rehearsals next week. Rather than have you come back in the evening, we thought it would be best to just run our “Winds Wednesday” schedule on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Rehearsals on these days will go from 1:30-3:00PM.
If you have another school commitment on Tuesday and Thursday, you need to attend those events first! Do not use our extra rehearsals as an excuse to miss other activities that you have made a commitment to.
If you can’t make it due to a work schedule, dr. appointment, etc., please email Mr. Smith ASAP.
I am confident that you can put on a great performance, but it’s going to take a bit of extra time for all of us to pull it off. “The only thing that overcomes hard luck is hard work.”
Program for Akron: The Crosley March & American Elegy. It wouldn’t hurt to start working on Resurgences since contest is 5 weeks away.
Wednesday
Getting bored with all of these snow days? Worried that your event will get a 9 on Saturday? The HS Band room will be open tomorrow for any ensemble that wishes to get together. Doors will open at 1:30. Email Mr. Smith to schedule a time.
Soloists: Mr. Kendrick will be there! Show up at the same time you showed up last week. If you need an earlier time, please email Mr. Smith and we will try to accommodate you.
