Announcements Week of 4/11/2011

1.  Jazz Ensemble will perform at Hoover High School this friday at 6:40 PM.  Come out and support your fellow band members and enjoy a great evening of jazz!

2.  Symphonic Winds will perform at OMEA State Contest on Friday, April 29th.  Performance will begin at 4:30PM at Oakwood Middle School (Glenoak).  Busses will leave Perry around 2:45PM.  You will need to bring your uniform to school with you that day.  We encourage all parents and friends of the Perry Band program to come out and support the Symphonic Winds at this event.

3.  Winds will rehearse after school on Wednesday, April 20th until 3PM.  No after school rehearsal this week due to auditions.

4.  Are you preparing an All State application?  You should!  Remember, you won’t make it if you don’t try out!

5.  Symphonic Winds and 8th Grade Concert Band will perform at a Pre-State Preview Concert on Wednesday, April 27th, in the Mattachione Theatre.


Perry Band Scholarship Updates

To date, senior Perry Band members have been awarded nearly $11,000 in music scholarships!

Allie Dolan, who will be majoring in Pharmacy at Ohio Northern, has received a $5000 music scholarship

Josh Williams, who will be attending Bowling Green State University, has received a $3000 music scholarship

Amanda Cameron, who will be attending Mount Union, has received a $2000 music scholarship

Justin Rhodes, who will be attending Liberty University inVirginia, has received a $700 music scholarhip

If your student has received scholarship money for music, please share that information with us so we can spread the good news.  We encourage ALL of our senior band members to audition for scholarships, regardless of whether they major in music.  There are MANY performance opportunities at the collegiate level for our students!

Announcements Week of 4/4/2011

1.  Kalahari deposits were due this past week.  If you forgot to turn in your money, please send it in to Mr. Smith no later than mid week!  If you wish to use your student account, please send in a note to let us know this.  Please keep in mind that the performance at Perkins High School on Saturday evening is required.  If you choose not to participate in the overall trip, you still need to be at the performance.  We are looking into providing transportation for the handful of students not going.  Details to come.

2.  Auditions for the 2011-2012 concert bands begin on Monday!  See the Winds/Concert Band pages for details.

3.  Rookie Camp will be held after school on the last day of school this year.  Schedules will be available in late April.  The complete Marching Band schedule is now available online.

4.  Winds will rehearse on Wednesday until 2:30.


Announcements Week of 3/28/2011

1.  First Kalahari trip payment of $60 is due by this Thursday!  Please make checks payable to “Perry Band Boosters”.

2.  The Perry High School Percussion Ensemble will be performing at the Northwest HS Arts Festival on April 6.  The concert will begin at 6PM.

3.  Planning Ahead:

–  Perry Jazz Ensemble at Hoover HS Jazz Festival April 15th

–  Pre State Concert April 27th in the Mattachione Theatre

–  State Contest at Glenoak April 29th (time TBD)

–  Jazz Night May 4th in the Mattachione Theatre

–  Bands in the Round May 5th in the PHS Gym

Announcements Week of 3/21/2011

1.  Congratulations to both ensembles this weekend at OMEA District Contest!  Both groups played VERY well, and we are proud of each and every one of you.  Concert Band earned a rating of “Excellent” and was only 1 point away from qualifying for State Finals!  Symphonic Winds earned a perfect score, and will be performing at State Finals on April 29th.  A state “preview” concert will be held on April 27th in the Mattchione Theatre.  We couldn’t be more proud of your tremendous accomplishments this year as we continue to be Good, Better, Best.

2.  Musical rehearsals begin this Monday at 6PM.

3.  Winds rehearsal from 1:30-3:15 this Wednesday.

4.  Auditions are only 2 short weeks away.  Be working on showing us your best.

5.  Excellent job showing your school spirit Friday evening with the decoration of Mrs. Martin’s car!
