Announcements Week of 3/13/2011

1.  Pre Contest Concert this Monday @ 7:oo PM.  Both bands should arrive around 6:15.  Winds will take pictures in the Gym at 6:30, followed by Concert Band.

2.  District Contest is this Friday at Lake HS.  Symphonic Winds will depart PHS at 3:30 and perform at 5:30.  Concert Band will depart PHS at 5:30 and perform at 7:30.  There are NO excused absences for this important event.

3.  Auditions for 2011-2012 Winds/Concert band will begin in 3 weeks!  Be sure to prepare excerpts from the audition packet, and also 20-40 measures of a piece of your choosing.

4.  Any student who is selected for the 2012 OMEA All State Band will automatically be in Symphonic Winds.  Remember, you won’t make it if you don’t try out!  Click here to download an All State Application Packet.

Announcements Week of 3/7/2011

1.  Pre Contest Concert is just 1 week away!  Dress for Monday night’s performance will be concert uniforms.  Symphonic Winds should be in the gym at 6:15 for pictures, Concert Band at 6:30.  Performance will begin at 7PM and will finish before 8.

2.  District Contest will take place on Friday, March 18th, at Lake HS.
Symphonic Winds:  Depart PHS at 3:30PM/Perform at 5:30PM, return to PHS around 7

Concert Band:  Depart PHS at 5:30PM/Perform at 7:30PM, return around 9:30

3.  Audition materials have been passed out and posted to the website.  Start preparing now so you are happy with the results!

Announcements Week of 2/28/2011

1.  Congratulations to the PHS Jazz Ensemble for an outstanding performance at the University of Louisville Jazz Festival.  All 3 judges were VERY impressed with your performance.  Also, congrats to John Thompson, Steven Turner, and Nathan Clapper for receiving Outstanding Performer awards!

2.  Jazz Ensemble page has been updated with 2 new tunes for April/May performances:  Told You Twice, and You Dig?.

3.  Winds/Concert audition materials will be available this week.

4.  Winds will rehearse this THURSDAY with Mr. Jeff Shellhammer.  Your attendance at this important rehearsal is expected.

5.  Performance times for District contest will be available later this week.  Don’t forget, we have a concert the Monday before contest at 7PM!

Marching Band Updates For All 2011 Perry Band Members

The full 2011 Marching Band Calendar is now online.  Please visit the calendar link so you can begin planning your summer schedules.  The schedule has been changed to allow more “free” time for you in August (4 day weekends!).  As you begin to plan summer vacations, please keep in mind that your attendance is necessary to assure that you have a spot in our show for this year.

Two dates remain to be added:  The Stark County Fair Band Show, and the Massillon Band Show.  These dates will be added as soon as we have information.

The Kalahari trip is booked on October 15/16.  Details regarding payments will be available soon.  Don’t miss out on this awesome trip.

All 2011 Sophomores, Juniors, and/or Seniors who wish to audition for the position of Field Commander should see Mr. Smith ASAP to schedule a time for assistance in preparing for your audition.

We are looking forward to a GREAT season as we take our Marching Band to new heights and continue on our goal to be the best.

Announcements Week of 2/21/2011

1. Congrats to all who participated in Solo and Ensemble Contest this weekend.  Perry High School musicians earned 43 Superior Ratings and 9 Excellent Ratings out of 52 total events!  Congratulations to all of you for your hard work.

2.  District Contest week is 3 weeks away.  Time to buckle down and spend some extra time practicing those parts!  Our Pre Contest Concert will be held on Monday, March 14th, at 7PM in the Boys Gym.  We will take pictures of each group prior to the performance.  District Contest times should be coming soon.

3.  Rich Kibler from Lake High School will be working with Winds this Wednesday.  Galen Karricker from The University of Akron will be working with Concert Band on Thursday.

4.  On March 3rd, Thursday, Jeff Shellhammer from Capitol University will be working with Winds.  Please clear your schedules for this very important rehearsal.

5.  Jazz Ensemble trip is this week!  The bus will roll at 4PM on Thursday.  Remember that dress for Friday is all black (dress pants, dress shoes, and dress shirt…not jeans and tee shirts!)

6.  Winds/Concert Band auditions will take place the week after the musical.  You will need to prepare 30-40 measures of your choosing, plus a required etude, in addition to scales.  Any student who auditions and makes the 2012 OMEA All State Band will automatically be placed in Winds for next year.  You can’t make the All State Band if you don’t audition!  We encourage ALL students to audition for this prestigious group.

7.  Final two Pep Bands are this Tuesday and Thursday.  Please sign up in the band room ASAP!

Pfeiffer 7th Grade Band Solo and Ensemble

All Pfeiffer 7th grade band members are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest that will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Tuslaw High School.  All interest forms are due to Mrs. Martin by Thursday, February 17.  If you did not receive a form and are interested in participating in the event, please see Mrs. Martin as soon as possible.
