End of Week 1 Announcements

1.  Outstanding first week of Marching Band!  Based on your progress, we are going to have a tremendous season if you keeping working as hard as you have been.  Take the weekend and RELAX!  Get some rest, and be ready to work again on Monday.  It should be much cooler, but keep bringing water.

2.  We will begin on Monday with parade marching.  If you don’t have La Pantera memorized, now is the time.

3.  La Pantera needs to be checked off by the end of this week.  Halftime show will need to be checked off during 2 a days week.

4.  Make sure you are working to memorize pre game.  The more we get done now, the less we have to worry about in August.

5.  If you do not have a uniform, you must contact Mrs. Metcalf ASAP!  Her contact information is located on the Band Booster page.  Marching Pictures will take place Friday evening before the parade.

6. Remember that it will take $6000 for the mattress sale for the entire staff to dance with you at halftime.  If you raise $5,999 we will not be rounding up.

7.  Have a great weekend!

Beat the heat!

Great first day of marching band!  The staff was VERY impressed with your attitude and work ethic this morning.  We are going to have an outstanding year.

With the heat wave this week, it is important for you to keep cool.  Here are some tips to help beat the heat:

1.  Drink lots and lots of water.  Gatorade/Powerade is ok, but H2O is better.  Avoid pop, coffee, sugary drinks, caffeine, and energy drinks as these will just dehydrate you.  Drink plenty of water in the evening before rehearsals.

2.  Wear light colored clothing.  Black/dark colors just make you feel hotter. (this includes shoes!)

3.  Wear a baseball cap or visor.  Keeping the sun out of your face and off your head will help  you feel cooler.

4.  Go home after practice and chill out in some air conditioning.  Go for a swim.  Do something to cool off.  You will sleep better, and wake up more refreshed.

5.  Eat a LIGHT breakfast.  If you eat a heavy breakfast (pancakes, sausage, grease, etc) you will just feel sick.  If you don’t eat any breakfast, you will run out of energy.

6.  Don’t forget your music and/or drill card.  This won’t make you any cooler, but it will certainly make your directors happy.

7.  Bring plenty of water to rehearsals.  We can’t stress this enough!  We will give you plenty of water breaks, but you need to do your part by bringing water.  Milkshakes or sweet tea are not good substitutes for water.

8.  Work hard at practice:  the harder you work, the faster we get done and out of the heat!

Marching Band!!

The 2013 edition of the Perry HS Marching Band kicks off tomorrow morning!  Rehearsal will start at 8AM in the band room.  We want to start rehearsing at 8, so be early.  Please make sure to bring all pre game and parade music in a flip folder with lyre as we will be working on that.  Football show music will be passed out this week.

Be sure you are dressed for the weather and bring plenty of water as it’s going to be HOT this week.  We will be spending time outside to teach and review fundamentals.  DO NOT wear sandals/flip flops.  Wear comfortable tennis shoes.

We want to have Pre Game and Football show on the field by the end of next week.  Show up with a positive attitude and ready to work hard!  We will begin putting the Phantom Show on the field during 2 a days week.  Remember that there will be alternates for the Phantom Show.  If you are not showing up to rehearsal, learning your music, or have a negative attitude, you will not have a spot!

If you have not picked up your uniform, this needs to get taken care of on the make up date.  (refer to calendar)  If you do not have a uniform, you can’t march.

HOF Tickets

The Canton Chamber of Commerce is selling their reserved (downtown) seating for $9 a space and they still have several front row spaces/seats available. Most front row availability is on the west side of the street. The number to order is 330-456-7253. They accept credit/debit cards by phone and there are no additional ticket fees if you pick up your tickets in person at the Chamber office in downtown Canton.  This is a great way to get a good seat without setting up in the middle of the night!  Come out and cheer on your Marching Panthers during HOF Week!  We would love to have a huge block of Perry parents as we march through downtown Canton!

Leadership Retreat Update

As of now, the Leadership Retreat for Thursday is still on.  We will be in contact with NTR Canoe to assess the water level for the river tomorrow morning.  If it is determined that the river is too high for canoeing, we will have a cookout at a location to be determined.  Please check the website on Thursday morning for any updates.  See you tomorrow!
